Solo performance ‘of searching and dissecting’
@ Performing House : A triple bill of new work from emerging artists
6th February @ 7.30pm
Performing House
Quad South Hall, York St John University
Original soundscore: Al MacSween
A collaborative improvised performance in response to a visual score. They mould and elude, search and dissect as they compose a multi-sensory piece and get lost trying. Both artists are fascinated by and have researched into improvised performance, especially the relationship between music and dance. As a relatively new creative partnership, Daliah and Al are boldly throwing themselves into this exiting new endeavour, searching and dissecting as they go along.

December
..has been a busy month. so much so, we are at the time of writing this, heading full force towards christmas and I am still not in a festive mood. but here’s the reason…
Monday 10th -Thursday 13th Assessment week at York St. John University and working on a piece with the first years which summarises all the hard work and exploration from the past 6 weeks in Movement Invention. For their winter platform Blink, I decide to dress them in oversized t-shirts and jumpers and let them enjoy themselves as they scramble, dodge and move … why not. “Chaos meets Order” is the name of the piece and I underline it with a quote from Deepak Chopra: ” In the midst of movement and chaos keep stillness inside of you”. I have a blast making it, they have a laugh enjoying it! Video up soon…
IMPROVISATION EXCHANGE 2013 –NEW DATES ANNOUNCED!! ( and a flashy flyer to hand out!:)

Friday 7th – Celebrating Yorkshire Dance’s 30th Birthday with an intergenerational community piece. Working as a ‘practitioner’ I spent the past 6 weeks working with Gary Clarke, a cast of 30 incredible dancers from the wider dance community and hugely talented choreographers, practitioners and Yorkshire dance staff towards a half hour visual and aural feast. Community dance at it’s best! Video to follow soon!
Wednesday 5th - Work demonstration. For my Masters module Contemporary Practice, I give a half hour lecture demonstration on “my daily practice” . I talk, move, show and think out loud, and have thoroughly enjoyed the process of observing ‘my daily practice’ evolve and cristalise. I create a blog, which becomes my archive and gathers my more obscure thought processes. Finding my feet, internalising academia and enjoying discovering my voice, physically and aurally, as a dance artist.
November
October
Sat. 13th Oct – Performing Moondial by Aldo Tambellini
Cello: Seth Woods
The Tanks: Art in Action
Tate Modern.
Here a link to a beautifully shot and edited promotional film produced by the Tate with performance footage and interview Aldo Tambellini.
“Moondial recreated from 1966 was an improvisation on the part of a musician and dancer with film and slide projections by Tambellini. The costume worn by the dancer – originally Beverly Schmidt but at the Tate Tanks Daliah Touré – with its wild headdress and reflective parts, brought to my mind the Afro-Futurism of Sun Ra and others.” (Mister Trippy)
I am glad someone notice the concrete floor ..
“The Tanks still had that hard concrete floor – Daliah Touré coped with this far better than the dancer I saw perform at the opening of The Tanks, Touré was really impressive.” (Mister Trippy)
Before I Decide ( 16th/17th July )
by Kathinka Walter
Excited to have co-ordinated this event as part of Performing House at Yorks St. John University.
Performing at the Tate Modern on the 13th of October as part of Aldo Tambellini’s Retracing Black Exhibition.
I will be involved in the re-staging of Black Zero (1965) and Moondial (1966). …a mixture of electronic imagery, slides, sounds, amplified cello music and improvised movement.

March
7th – 9th – Mathilde residency at Yorkshire Dance.
Our main focus for those 3 days was to confront the tendency to ‘perform’ and how this takes over our decision making process. How can we carry the same sense of truthfulness that is present in the studio into a live performance setting? How can we let things develop more? How can we become better at leaving the space? What about solos? Silences?….
Also,
Back at York St. Johns University teaching Developing Movement Invention.
February
Senegal!
January
26th Jan. – 2nd February
Solo residency at Yorkshire Dance.
Somatic approaches to movement exploration with particular focus on Body Mind Centering. Six days to navigate through the various anatomical systems, resistances and interruptions and settle into a routine of warming up to ‘woman’s hour’; exploring movement with and without sounds, enjoying the afternoon sun through the large studio windows, meditation through improvisation (or trying to..); discovering the back of my hands and arms and shoulders; re-discovering spirals and adding counter spirals and off balances and counter balances; keeping my jaw soft; pouring/tiping, repeating tasks many times and documenting and sharing a little of what I have found. (thanks Amy and Marie for joining me on the last day:)
December
…will mostly be spent studying for my MA in Performance, Culture and Context at Leeds University and teaching Movement Invention at York St. Johns University.

An improvised journey through a Leeds inner district captured on film. Six individuals move as a non-hierarchical entity through the urban landscape and explore the possibilities; the path stimulated by their senses and their sense of camaraderie. Whatever happens happens and is explored, exploited and abandoned without judgement.
Original version – edited chronologically, as it happened.
black and white, edited using a random principal.
